(January 31, 2013) – Alexandria resident Viola Karbo receives first regional lymph node transplant at Inova. She beat breast cancer and now hopes the transplant will end her struggle with lymphedema. She’s excited about getting back to her life! ABC7‘s Gail Huff, spoke with her surgeons Dr. Mark Venturi and Dr. Alex Mesbahi, about the groundbreaking procedure. She also caught up with Viola about her experience with lymphedema and Viola showed off scarves and quilted works she has already been able to make during her recovery.

My friend weighs 400 pounds; she has lymphedema and her body fluids collect in her abdomen to the point that she is shaped very much like a penguin. Her lymph nodes are fine under her arms, but not in her lower body area. I do not know how this lady makes it though a day. Is the lymph note transplant a possibility for someone with my friend's condition?
