The Inova Advanced Imaging Center now offers 3T MRI
More comfortable patient experience with more accurate diagnosis
Alexandria, VA – (June 4, 2012) – The Inova Alexandria Hospital Advanced Imaging Center has opened its 3-T Open Bore MRI machine. This technology allows for a more comfortable exam experience for patients, more detailed images, and therefore a more accurate diagnosis. The Advanced Imaging Center is located at Inova Alexandria Hospital at Mark Center, 1800 North Beauregard St. Suite 150, Alexandria.
The new MAGNETOM® Verio MRI scanner from Siemens features a 70-cm opening. With one foot of headroom patients won’t experience the confined feeling associated with most other MRI machines. It also has the strongest magnet field strength used clinically today and gives physicians access to images with superior clarity and detail, particularly in the neurological , orthopedic, and oncologic fields.
“We are excited to be able to offer this technology to our community,” commented Nitin Kumar, MD, Chief of Radiology at Inova Alexandria Hospital, “This machine has 2 times the power of the traditional MRI machines which allows for sharper images and therefore more accurate diagnosis. This, in combination with the 70cm opening, allows us to provide patients with state of the art image quality without compromising comfort.
The Inova Advanced Imaging Center offers MRI, 128-Slice CT, Diagnostic X-ray, Ultrasound, Dedicated women’s imaging services, including digital mammography (with same day results), densitometry (DEXA), and stereotactic biopsy. Call 571-423-5400 to make an appointment.

Thank you for a very pleasant experience this morning. I was tremendously nervous having gone on the internet last night and reading some accounts of other patients’s MRI experiences at other facilities. Everyone in the office was very nice and friendly. My tech allowed my husband to go in with me, gave me headphones and allowed me to listen to music. He explained everything that was going to happen throughout the image and talked me while I was in the machine. He also explained that it wouldn’t take an hour as I thought it might, but more like a half hour if he got all the images he needed. I highly recommend Inova Medical Imaging – Mark Center in Alexandria. The facility has the newest technology (one of the largest machines in the area with a short tube). The headgear they put on you for a brain MRI has a pretty cool mirror in it so you can see all the way down the table and out the opening. I could see the tech during the test behind the glass so that was comforting. This is nothing like the old long, tight submarine tubes they used to put you in where you felt like you were being buried alive. Thanks again!
