Inova Hospitals Again Recognized for Outstanding Quality and Safety
All Hospitals Earn an “A” for Patient Safety for Fifth Time in a Row
Falls Church, VA – Inova Health System’s five hospitals were nationally recognized with an ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group, an independent hospital watchdog organization committed to healthcare quality and safety. It is the fifth consecutive grading period in which all of Inova’s hospitals received this national distinction, which recognizes achievements in protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a letter grade Leapfrog assigns to all general hospitals in the United States twice a year. The grade is based on a hospital’s performance preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents and infections. Developed with guidance from leading quality and patient safety experts, the grade analyzes 27 measures of publicly available safety data among 2,600 acute-care hospitals. Methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
The safety grade comes just one week after Inova Alexandria, Inova Fair Oaks and Inova Loudoun hospitals received The Leapfrog Group’s elite 2020 Top Hospitals award, which recognizes the highest quality hospitals in the United States. Recipients must achieve top performance on rigorous safety standards, including infection rates, safe surgery practices, maternity care, and capacity to prevent medication errors. Inova Alexandria, Inova Fair Oaks and Inova Loudoun hospitals are among just 105 facilities nationwide to earn this distinction.
“Being recognized by The Leapfrog Group for the highest safety performance nationally validates Inova’s efforts to provide the best quality care to our patients in the safest environment possible,” says J. Stephen Jones, MD, President and CEO of Inova Health System. “To achieve this recognition anytime is impressive; to earn it in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic is extraordinary, and further reassures our community that safety is a priority at Inova.”
“The Leapfrog Group is extremely grateful to hospitals and healthcare workers who have remained steadfast in prioritizing patient safety as our nation battles COVID-19,” says Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Top Hospital and Safety Grade are a testament to the care and commitment of everyone at Inova whose efforts made this possible.”
