Inova Surpasses 200,000 Doses of COVID-19 Vaccines Given
FALLS CHURCH, VA– This week, Inova Health System reached the significant milestone of administering more than 200,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. As of March 11, 2021, the total number of doses administered by Inova is nearly 211,500. This accounts for one-third of all shots given in Northern Virginia and one in every eleven administered in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The efficient vaccination process at Inova’s COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic on the Inova Center for Personalized Health campus is open seven days a week, and has the ability to administer more than 4,500 doses of vaccine per day to those who are eligible.
“From that first dose in December, to now more than 200,000 doses later, our vaccination clinics and team members are restoring hope with each dose they administer. Right now, supply is the only thing keeping us from protecting more members of our community,” said J. Stephen Jones, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer, Inova Health System.
Inova’s vaccination clinic efforts are co-led by Chief Pharmacy Officer Melanie Massiah-White and Nursing and Inova Clinical Platforms Vice President Michelle Vassallo. Since launching the clinic in December, Inova has administered the vaccine to healthcare workers in the region, teachers, essential workers and others who qualify per prioritization provided by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
“The incredible leadership from Melanie and Michelle, and the entire Inova team, has been instrumental in achieving this latest milestone of protecting our community. This is just the beginning and we continue to partner with health districts and leaders in our region to get as many doses of the vaccine out to the community as quickly as possible,” said Jones.
This week Inova also announced plans to open a new large-scale vaccination center, in partnership with the City of Alexandria and Fairfax County, which will double the capacity and significantly increase the number of vaccines we can administer each day to between 6,000 and 12,000 people per day, depending on supply available. The Inova Stonebridge COVID-19 Vaccination Center, located in Alexandria Virginia, will open at the end of the month. Inova will continue to work with the respective health departments to vaccinate eligible groups that best meet the needs of the community.
Inova receives its COVID-19 vaccine allocation directly from local health departments. Scheduling is only available for individuals identified as eligible by health departments. More information about eligibility and scheduling is available here.
