Falls Church, VA – Inova Blood Donor Services and the World Health Organization (WHO) are celebrating World Blood Donor Day on Monday, June 14. IBDS and blood donor organizations around the world are hosting events to recognize our generous donors and the gift of life they provide through blood donation.
World Blood Donor Day was established in memory of Karl Landsteiner, a Nobel Prize recipient who discovered the ABO blood group system and changing the world of transfusion medicine. The theme of this year’s World Blood Donor Day is “Give Blood and Keep the World Beating.” This summer and every summer, blood centers experience critical shortages in the supply of life saving blood.
Please take the time to make an appointment to donate on June 14, or another day soon, to help boost the blood supply and ensure there is an adequate supply for our communities. There is no substitute for blood when needed for patient care and it only comes from volunteer donors like you. All donors who give blood on World Blood Donor Day will receive an exclusive T-shirt* as a thank you for their donation.
Appointments are required and all donors must wear a mask. All blood types are needed.
Join us and help save up to three lives with one hour of your time. Space is limited – make an appointment today. Sign up at: inovablood.org/wbdd2021.
When: Monday, June 14, 2021, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Inova Blood Donor Services plays a critical role in the region by supporting the majority of hospitals in the Washington DC metro region, including all Inova hospitals, with a safe and adequate blood supply for patients in the diverse community we serve. To support the needs of the region, Inova Blood Donor Services must collect 200 units a day from generous blood, platelet, plasma and double red cell donors.
