Inova announces its first-ever comprehensive campaign of $500 million

Inova publicly launches campaign to reach $500 million by end of the decade

Fairfax, VA, September 20, 2024 – Last night, Inova hosted a group of more than 300 philanthropic and business leaders, to announce the public launch of its first-ever comprehensive campaign, setting a goal of $500 million by December 31, 2029.

“With great hospital systems, comes equally meaningful philanthropic commitment, and not by coincidence,” said J. Stephen Jones, MD, FACS, President and CEO, Inova. “To realize our vision for world-class healthcare for our communities, we rely on philanthropic partners. With their support, and the shared efforts of our wider community, we look forward to achieving this goal, together.”

The Do. More. Together campaign is focused on four initial pillars: Cancer, Heart and Vascular, Behavioral Health, and Inova’s Greatest Need, which currently includes the renovation of the Fairfax Emergency Department—the nation’s fourth busiest—as well as development projects in the Alexandria, Mount Vernon and Franconia-Springfield communities.

The campaign will encompass all philanthropic contributions since January 1, 2023, including the generosity of the more than 10,000 donors who contributed to the Schar Challenge over the last year. Inova enters this next phase with more than $170 million in philanthropic contributions towards this goal, to be reached by the end of the decade.

“With this campaign, we are led by our shared vision for how philanthropy can drive care and innovation forward for the patients and families we serve,” said Sage Bolte, PhD, LCSW, CST, FAOSW, Chief Philanthropy Officer and President of the Inova Health Foundation.

The theme for the evening’s celebration was inspired by a quote from longtime Inova supporter Dwight Schar, whose leadership was also recognized: “A single act of generosity can spark a wave of transformation.”

“We are deeply grateful to Dwight and Martha, along with our Foundation Board Chair, Robert G. Hisaoka, and the many philanthropic visionaries who have helped to set the stage for this next chapter in Inova’s transformation, and for our community members who so resoundingly answered the Schar Challenge last year—we’re excited and ready to do more, together,” said Dr. Bolte.
