Inova Names John Moynihan, MD, President and Chief, Clinical Enterprise

Fairfax, VA – Oct. 4, 2024 – After an expansive national search, Inova is pleased to announce John Moynihan, MD, FACS, has been named President and Chief, Clinical Enterprise, effective today.

Dr. Moynihan will be responsible for leading Inova’s clinical enterprise, which includes all care delivery sites, clinical service lines, research and education, providers, and support services. He will drive Inova’s clinical transformation strategy, inclusive of developing and delivering Inova Care, and advance all aspects of the clinical enterprise performance across the Inova system.

In March 2024, Dr. Moynihan was selected as Acting Chief, Clinical Enterprise, while maintaining his role as President, Inova Surgical Services, a role he has held since 2020. Before this role, Dr. Moynihan spent 25 years as a community doctor integrated with Inova, joined the Medical Group in 2011 and served as Chair of the Department of Surgery at Inova Fairfax Campus.

Throughout Dr. Moynihan’s career, he has been a leader in surgical education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has advanced technologies and innovation and has continuously promoted the safe delivery of surgical care through multidisciplinary teams training, standardized practices and outcomes research.

Board certified in general surgery, Dr. Moynihan is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Holy Cross College and the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed a surgical residency at Georgetown and a peripheral vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Tennessee.
