Fairfax, VA – Nov. 15, 2024 – Inova is pleased to announce that Inova Fairfax Hospital, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, Inova Loudoun Hospital, and Inova Mount Vernon Hospital have once again earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog dedicated to healthcare quality and safety. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade evaluates general hospitals across the country based on over 30 performance measures related to errors, injuries, accidents, and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have implemented to prevent harm.
This national distinction highlights Inova’s achievements in protecting patients from harm and providing safer healthcare. Only 41 hospitals in Virginia were awarded “A” grades for the fall 2024 term.
“Inova’s legacy of consecutive ‘A’ grades speaks volumes about our commitment to a culture where safety is paramount,” said Chapy Venkatesan, MD, Chief Quality Officer, Inova. “Our teams are continually raising the bar to meet the highest standards in healthcare, and these grades reflect our relentless focus on creating safe, effective, and exceptional patient experiences.”
Key milestones in patient safety at Inova hospitals:
“I am incredibly proud of our entire Inova team for maintaining such a high level of consistent excellence across our hospitals,” said J. Stephen Jones, MD, FACS, President and CEO, Inova. “This achievement speaks to the trust our patients place in us and the dedication of every team member who works tirelessly to ensure we provide the highest standard of care at all times.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade is a significant accomplishment for Inova,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It reflects enormous dedication to your patients and their families, and your whole community should be proud. I extend my congratulations to Inova, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for their tireless efforts to put patients first.”
